Background: Dr. Shapiro holds dual board certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine. He is the Director of Osteopathic Education DOE for the Internal Medicine residency at Northside Gwinnett. He is also a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) through the Society of Simulation in Healthcare and Certified Medical Director (CMD) through the Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medical Association. After his Chief Residency at Northside Gwinnett, he stayed on as faculty splitting his time between being a clinical educator, primary care physician, inpatient medicine faculty.

In his role as Director of Osteopathic Education, he both practices and facilitates education in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine/Treatment (OMM/OMT). These are techniques used during clinic visits that focus on the whole body, lifestyle, and utilizes the body's natural ability to heal.

Outside of his practice Dr. Shapiro is a founding champion of the American College of Osteopathic Internists Support, Training, and Resources for Internal Medicine DO Education Program (STRIDE). Here he creates student programming for the southeastern US.
