Background: Dr. Courtney previously worked as an academic hospitalist for Internal Medicine at the Sonny Montgomery V.A. in Jackson, MS before joining the NHG Internal Medicine Residency Program. During her residency, she found her passion for advocacy, diversity and inclusion. Through her work on the American College of Physicians’ Mississippi Chapter, she has served on the Governor’s Council and as an Advocacy Committee member. In 2021 she was nominated for The Pillars: Recognition of Service and Inclusive Excellence at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, a testament to her outstanding work throughout her medical school and residency. Passionate about education of health disparities and minority health, she was selected as the Subcommittee Chair of Education, Trainees for Diversity and Inclusion. Dr. Courtney was the sole resident facilitator of the Health Disparities Curriculum for the Internal Medicine Program and a member of the Pediatrics Diversity and Inclusion Focus.

Her interest in medicine has been fueled by her personal life experiences coming from a lower socio-economic background in her youth. In her personal life, she was the founder of Parallels, a mentoring group for minority girls ages 12-18.
