Background: Dr. Patel joined the Northside family with the inception of the residency program in June 2015 and served as founding Associate Program Director until transitioning to Program Director and Director of Osteopathic Medicine in 2021. As Associate Program Director, he helped develop many of the initiatives that serve as the foundation of the program, including the 3+1 block schedule, the Simulation Center, EBM curriculum, and the Public Health/Tuberculosis Clinic.
Prior to his time at NHG, Dr. Patel did his residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the U. Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. He then served as Assistant Professor and Director of the Med-Peds Residency Continuity Clinic at the same institution. During his time in Miami, he helped create the Human Rights Clinic (HRC) of Miami -- a clinic dedicated to evaluating and documenting human rights abuses for seekers of asylum which continues function to this day. In 2022, he was awarded the GA ACP’s Early Career Physician Award for his work in medical education and patient advocacy. Outside of work, Dr. Patel enjoys tennis, roasting coffee, cooking and playing his Indian classical musical instruments- tabla and sitar.
